Design Engineer\nCambridge\n£40,000 – £50,000 per year\n25 days holiday + bank holidays\nPension scheme\nClear progression opportunities within a growing, innovative company\n\nWe’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Design Department. You’ll play a key role in creating high-quality, innovative, and commercially competitive products for the material handling industry. This role combines hands-on design work with collaborative responsibilities, supporting colleagues, mentoring junior engineers, and driving continuous improvement across our design processes.\n\nWhat you’ll do:\n• Design detailed 3D parts and assemblies in SolidWorks and produce full manufacturing drawing packs, including BOMs, laser profiles, and work orders.\n• Develop and maintain design standards, processes, and best practices.\n• Review drawings, participate in design reviews, and support data quality across the team.\n• Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing.\n• Work closely with Project Engineers to ensure projects meet design requirements, timelines, budgets, and quality standards.\n• Capture and incorporate design changes from manufacturing, installation, or commissioning.\n• Liaise with customers and suppliers for design reviews, approvals, and sourcing.\n• Identify cost-saving opportunities and improvements in product designs and manufacturing processes.\n• Support cross-functional teams with technical expertise.\n\nWhat we’re looking for:\n• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.\n• Proven design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, including transferring bespoke designs into production.\n• Minimum 4 years hands-on SolidWorks 3D experience (essential).\n• Experience with SolidWorks PDM and sheet metal/fabrication design is highly desirable.\n• Exposure to food processing equipment is advantageous.\n• AutoCAD 2D proficiency is a plus
